Beth Montelone
In my role as an administrator, I am still able to do some scholarly work. I have chosen to focus on the area of increasing participation in the STEM workforce and capacity-building for areas broadly related to health and biosciences. I think that this is critical for US science and technology and our national security.
Active Projects
- Lead PI on two extramurally funded projects “Pathways to Public Health” and “One Health Kansas” – both aimed at increasing STEM pipeline in general, public health as broadly defined. These projects support K-12 outreach, undergraduate and graduate recruiting, and public health workforce recruiting and continuing education efforts.
- I have DCE funding and am working with Bob Larson of Clinical Sciences to develop an online One Health graduate survey course for implementation in Fall 2012.
- I am serving as a Co-PI on recently awarded USDA CAP grant on STEC in beef chain (UNL is the lead organization) and will direct education and student research efforts.
- I am the director of the K-State education and outreach effort for DHS-funded Center of Excellence on Emerging and Zoonotic Animal Diseases and Co-PI on recently awarded HS-STEM Career Development Program related to this Center.
