Responsibilities and Experience

Ken Burton, Director of BRI Project Coordination, oversees activities of the BSL-3, ABSL-3, and BSL-3Ag research project scheduling team, collaborates with the K-State Large Animal Research Facility (LARC) for research transition to the BRI, facilitates communication between research teams and BRI project support staff, and directs pre-project coordination meetings prior to the start of research in containment. Dr. Burton provides veterinary resource support for the BRI.

Burton also serves as Program Director for the National Agricultural Biosecurity Center (NABC), located in Pat Roberts Hall, and is principle investigator and co-principle investigator on multiple projects involving transboundary animal disease (TAD) response planning, training, and education. Projects include the Livestock Emergency Response Plan (LERP) toolkit, country profiles assessing capabilities of selected foreign countries' response to outbreaks of zoonotic and non-zoonotic high-consequence livestock diseases, technical information reporting guides used by non-scientific field personnel to provide high-impact foreign animal/zoonotic disease information, and the Animal Disease Response Training (ADRT) curriculum for non-traditional FAD response personnel.
