Instructional Technologist
General Description of Position:
The position will develop educational content and deliverables supporting the Biosecurity Research Institutes educational mission with a focus on biosafety, biocontainment, biosecurity, and infectious disease.
Job Description:
The Instructional Designer will collaborate with the BRI Education Officer and subject matter experts to produce effective learning solutions. The position will create materials for use in facility trainings, workshops, undergraduate and graduate courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced skills in online course development and multimedia production. They will also possess demonstrated experience in instructional technology, learning management system administration, and assessment. Additionally, the position will provide support to staff, instructors, and participants as required in the planning, development, and execution of BRI events and courses.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in instructional design, instructional technology or education is required
- One year experience developing online-course material
- One year experience using instructional design formal processes
- One year experience administering or delivering fully online or blended learning content using a learning management system
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and editing multimedia educational content
- U.S. citizen or alien with permanent resident card (requirement of Homeland Security projects supported by this position)
- Successful completion of a criminal background check required
- Work based at the BRI in Manhattan, Kansas (telecommuting is not allowed)
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events
- Excellent oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using formal project management methodologies and tools
- Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Suite programs including; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Edge, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Audition
- Demonstrated experience using Adobe Captivate
- Familiarity with infectious disease and biosafety fields
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or Education
Physical Activities and Environmental Conditions :
Visual and audio acuity within normal ranges is required – will use the BRI's existing professional quality audio/video capture, mixing, and editing equipment to record and produce education content
